Music Matters concert in Croydon
Tuesday 15 October 2024
19:30 to 21:30
Join us for "Music Matters" with flautist Rachel Brown and recorder player James Risdon in a programme of duets on Tuesday 15 October at 7.30pm at Whitgift House Chapel in Croydon.
Rachel Brown
Performing on a huge range of flutes and recorders, Rachel Brown has appeared as a soloist in Europe, Japan and North and South America with a comprehensive concerto repertoire from J.S.Bach, to Mozart.
Equally at home in the wind section, and described as “a ray of sunshine over the orchestra” by the New York Times, Rachel has had a long and distinguished career as an orchestral player; first, on silver flute, with the orchestra of Kent Opera and for many years, on historical instruments, as principal flute with the Academy of Ancient Music, the Hanover Band, the Kings Consort, Collegium Musicum 90, ExCathedra, the Brandenburg Consort and Arcangelo.
She performs regularly at Wigmore Hall with her chamber group, the London Handel Players.
James Risdon
“Risdon communicates the solo recorder’s sonority, versatility and virtuosity brilliantly.”
The Recorder Magazine
James has had an almost lifelong fascination with the recorder. His formal studies were with the late Alan Davis and subsequently with Rebecca Miles. He gained his LRSM with distinction in 2011 and in the same year was placed runner-up in the international competition for blind musicians at the Jan Dale Conservatoire in Prague.
His repertoire and work span the Middle Ages to ‘wet on the page’ with several dedications, commissions and compositions to his name including the exquisite concerto by the late Andrew Downes which can be heard on YouTube.
